Timothy's First Month

Timothy's First Month
Oil on 6"x6" stretched canvas

I will be painting a small 6x6 work of Timothy each month for his first year of life. These 12 works will be assembled and framed together to make one work. Can't wait to see dramatic changes each month. The first month shows him doing what he does most... sleep! Well, for a couple hours at a time. My poor daughter is exhausted with breastfeeding with little rest in between. I tell her what was told me, "Sleep when he sleeps."

Home Again

Home Again
Acrylics on 6.5"x10" mixed-media paper

Went to my hometown, Charlottesville, with my sister, Allyson. We had to stop by our old homestead. We were shocked at its disrepair. Roof was torn up, walls were cracked and in the back was this old truck. I so wish I could buy and restore it.

Tree Challenge

Plein Air Buds Tree Challenge from Freedom Park
Mixed Media (watercolor and artist crayons) on paper 6"x6"

Artist, Carol Pighin, posted an usual tree on Facebook and challenged us Plein Air Buds to paint it. I so enjoyed it because I am presently stuck at home helping my daughter with her newborn son. The buds usually refrain from working with photos but since we are outdoors a lot, it works. We know what trees look like in real life. I will be back out painting again soon.

"Day One" (Preliminary sketch)

"Day One"
Sketch done with ink, w/c and artist crayons on Mixed-Media Paper

This sketch was done from the first photo ever taken of my newborn grandson, Timothy. He was born just last week on March 29th. I plan on making a series of 6"x6" paintings of him, one per month, to compile into one large work (24"x24"). My idea of a baby quilt!
